Alejandro Madariaga and Jorge Villar Secure Spots in the 2026 World Wide Technology Championship
The Mexican golfers earned two exemptions into the PGA Tour event through the Mexican Qualifier presented by National Car Rental and the Mexico Match Play.
LOS CABOS, MEXICO (October 7, 2026) – Alejandro Madariaga and Jorge Villar, both from Puebla, Mexico, secured their spots in the 2026 World Wide Technology Championship after winning the Mexican Qualifier presented by National Car Rental and the Mexico Match Play, respectively.
Madariaga earned the first exemption by winning the Mexican Qualifier presented by National Car Rental, held October 4 at El Cardonal at Diamante. The Puebla native took control of the competition in the opening round with an 8-under 64 and finished the 27-hole event at 7-under 101, securing his second consecutive appearance at the World Wide Technology Championship.
In 2025, Madariaga also qualified for the World Wide Technology Championship through the Mexico Match Play. That appearance marked his PGA Tour debut, where he finished T46 as the highest-placing Mexican player in the field. This November, he will have another opportunity to compete alongside some of the world's best golfers.
The second exemption was decided Tuesday at the Mexico Match Play, also held at El Cardonal at Diamante. Jorge Villar defeated Federico Gutiérrez in a thrilling final that required three extra holes to determine the champion and secure his place in Mexico's pioneering PGA Tour event. For Villar, this will mark his first PGA Tour appearance after nine years of pursuing the opportunity to compete at golf's highest level, having attempted to qualify since 2017.
Both events reflect the World Wide Technology Championship's ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for Mexican golf talent. The qualifying format offers two exclusive pathways for Mexican players: a 27-hole stroke-play competition and a single-elimination match-play tournament, with the winner of each event earning an exemption. Madariaga and Villar will join the 120-player field competing November 5–8 at El Cardonal at Diamante for a particularly meaningful edition of the World Wide Technology Championship, which this year celebrates 20 years of PGA Tour golf in Mexico.
